First Presbyterian Church  of Sugar Land

Worship

Sunday Worship: Our primary call as Christians is to bring glory to God through worship and service.  Corporate worship is celebrated on Sunday mornings at 8:30 and 11:00.  Special services include Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter sunrise, and Youth Sunday.

Children’s worship is held for ages 3 to kindergarten during corporate worship at 11:00.  The children’s service is modeled after the adult worship program.  Not only does it teach children about worship and sacraments, but also provides a fun, loving atmosphere with activities to aid children in experiencing God’s presence.

Nursery:  Staffed / supervised by TRAINED adults providing loving care to infants and toddlers during all services.

Sacrament of Baptism: Presbyterians recognize and celebrate two sacraments as instituted by our Lord Jesus Christ as the way in which God’s grace is extended to us.  The SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM is the manner in which a person - infant, child, youth, or adult - enters the family of God.  Presbyterians recognize one baptism as sufficient for the removal of sins.  Thus, persons, who previously have been baptized in another congregation or denomination may join the church without being baptized again.

Parents may present their children for baptism after approval by the Session and prior counseling by the pastor.  Ordinarily, at least one parent is a member of the church.  Adults are baptized on profession of their faith in Jesus Christ.  Baptism is an integral part of our life together as a church family and, therefore is celebrated within the context of corporate worship.  A special brochure for parents who desire their children to be baptized is available through the church office.

Holy Communion: The SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER is celebrated six times a year on Sundays and also on Maundy Thursday and Christmas Eve.  Presbyterians practice “open communion”:  we extend Christ’s invitation to baptized believers and their baptized children to partake in this thanksgiving feast of God’s people.
